Led by Pegie Stark Adam
We offer in-newsroom and individual training in several areas including: the principles of basic and advanced design, typography and readability, color theory and application, development of and use of the grid, and conceptual thinking.
With more than 20 years of teaching including Indiana University, University of Florida and Syracuse University, at The Poynter Institute, and in newsrooms around the world, Pegie brings her expertise in creating customized courses for groups and individuals.
Applying Research to the Training: EyeTrack
Pegie was the co-director of both the Poynter Eye Track project in 1991 and the recent EyeTrack 07 project. The results of which were just released.
EyeTrack findings are included in all training. The findings demonstrate how readers look at pages, read stories and comprehend information, giving new insight into the best ways to design publications.
Group Training
Group training can take place in the client’s newsroom, publication offices or organization. Group sessions range from large lectures to presentations with hands-on exercises and small group discussions.
Small groups of 4 or less can meet with Pegie in the Stark Adam Design studios for in-depth training.
Individual Training
We recommend individual training for those who want to brush up on a specific area, or who have been promoted to a design position, but have little or no background in design.
Individual training can take place within the organization or in the Stark Adam studios. Training can be one day or one week depending on the need.
Books
Pegie has written books on design including an interactive version of Color, Contrast and Dimension which she created with Anne Van Wagener. Take a look at the site, www.poynter.org/colorproject, which includes hands-on exercises and get a feel for what you could expect in a training session.
