Corporate Design: JP Morgan/Chase Employee Newspaper

Design by Erik Battenberg and Lawrence Houck

JPMorgan Chase’s employee newspaper is much more than a newsletter announcing changes and employee promotions. It is a journalistic publication that tackles difficult issues like downsizing, stock options, ownership and much more that affect the work lives and personal lives of its employees.

INK was originally created as The Wire when Bank One was on its own. When Bank One merged with JPMorgan Chase, The Wire was redesigned into INK.

The design of INK was a fresh remake of the original, The Wire. It continued to display stories and visuals like a newspaper of record. We introduced a newly-drawn headline typeface, Old Modern and its partner Benton Modern, for text and Poynter Gothic Text was maintained for body text for maximum readability.

JPMorgan Chase blue is the main color in the palette while gray, deep red and tan provide accent tones for fact boxes, and navigation devices like labels and teasers.

A multi-column 12-unit grid provides consistent use of white space throughout.
